What are your good moments?
I've had some good moments lately. I've conquered some challenges, met future leaders and decided to commit to pursuing some questions. I also want to go to camp in the concrete forrest. Here's more...
Sew Good: First, I finally conquered a soft circuit project (the flower bracelet pictured). I will confess that this project was originally started by students during our Tuesday Tinker Lab Sessions. At the end of the sessions (plus some lunches) the students didn't finish their projects. These students were diligent and patient. I was determined to make these circuits work for them! After much conductive thread pushing and thanks to Instructables I delivered two cuff bracelets to two very happy students.
Thinking in motion: I firmly believe professional development should be active and layered. I was invited to present at the NJSEA leadership conference on STEM integration into subject areas such as language arts and social studies. The pre-service teachers I met at this conference are dedicated and passionate. In a little over an hour we worked through integrating areas of engineering, math and science into language arts and social studies. It worked because they were present and participated. Thank you!
New Adventure: When I moved to New York a year ago it was my intentions to wait a year until applying for a doctoral studies program. Long story short, I didn't wait and went for it with both feet and no helmet. I am excited, scared and thrilled to be accepted to the 2015 doctoral studies cohort for Learning and Teaching at Hofstra University. My research goal is to ask questions about the head space and physical spaces needed to sustain inquiry based learning. If you're interested in the same questions, I highly suggest reading Towards Creative Learning Spaces. It's been my recent read.
Future Camper?: Lastly, I have applied to the second annual ITP Maker Education Summer Camp. These are my people. This is my crew. My flock. This is what my dreamy summer camp looks like. If you're reading this ITP, please make me a camper!
Here's to good moments. The ones happening right now and the ones ahead.
